Not For Me,
When an author is aiming a cookbook at an American audience, I think they would do well to write the book in a format familiar to American cooks, such as altering references to “caster sugar” and “icing sugar” to the American terms.
Most American cookbooks/recipes use volume-based measurements – cups, teaspoons, etc. These recipes refer to “110 g/4 oz” and “250g (9 oz) grated carrots.” References to UK-style oven settings such as Celsius and “gas 4″ should also be removed or at least written so the Fahrenheit scale comes first, because when I’m cooking, I want my information easy to find and in a format I’m used to. Almost all of my recipes give Fahrenheit first and then Celsius.
The format is fairly clean, but the recipes don’t appear on individual pages; one might see the last 3 paragraphs of the previous recipe and the beginning of a new recipe, which then continues to the next page, etc. I do not want to be flipping back and forth on my Kindle while I’m baking!
The only pan preparation given is “line muffin pans with paper liners.” Most reputable books provide instructions for those who don’t wish to use the liners (or who have run out in the middle of a batch).
The overall lack of pictures isn’t a big deal to me.
Honestly, there are a ton and a half of cupcake books out there. I just don’t want to fiddle with the conversions. This one’s not useful to me.
