For how long do I bake them
hey beth, I just made these and they looked great, feet and all. But they
were crispier than they should be, arent they suppose to be chewy?? can you

There are so many things wrong with this tutorial. I don’t claim to be a
pastry chef but I make macarons at least a couple times a month. Lately
because of all the holidays, it’s been a lot more. The first problem I saw
was with the piping. You shouldn’t use a star tip. If you don’t have a
round tip for your piping bag just cut the end and don’t use one at all.
Otherwise you get those weird shapes and all your macarons with be
different sizes and won’t fit together. The shells should be perfectly
round or if they are different shapes, they should all have a uniform
shape, like a star or heart. The other bigger problem is those are way to
burnt. You shouldn’t have that much brown color to your finished shells.
Plus I can tell they came out hollow inside just by the sound the made
when you were working on the table with them. And when you look above the
“feet”, you can see the space in between the top of the shell and the start
of the feet. That usually indicates over whipping the egg whites, baking
to long or your oven was too hot. Those probably just became a huge crumbly
mess as soon as you bite into them. These are one of the most difficult
cookies to make, I will say though.
You should make a coconut cake. :)
OMG, English people! Just say “macaron” for this and “coconut top” for
macaroon to avoid confusion! Problem solved.
