Nutritional Sciences

Nutritional Sciences

I was interested in Pharmacy and so
that’s why I initially chose Biochemistry, but I found that
Nutritional Sciences still met all of the requirements and it sounded much
more fun, so that’s why I changed to Nutrition. One
thing that I wish I had done much sooner in my academic career, you know as early
as freshmen year, is get more involved. I really didn’t start to get involved on
campus until my sophomore year because I thought, “I should just take this first
year to focus on academics,” but really I think I performed better
when I did have those extracurricular activities because it did force me to
have those strong organizational skills. Another thing that I would recommend is
reaching out to professors for research opportunities. It’s never too early to get involved in
research. Even as a freshman, when maybe you don’t have as much experience. Initially I was very intimidated by my
professors so freshman year I really didn’t go to office hours. It wasn’t until
sophomore and junior that I worked up the courage, but it helped immensely
having that relationship with them and made them much less intimidating and
help me to grasp the material a lot more. I would suggest going and even
introducing yourself after maybe the first class. That way when you go to see
them again, when you do need some help, it’s not as awkward. There are a lot of
resources and a lot of opportunities within the College of Agriculture and
Life Sciences. The Career Center is very beneficial no matter what year you are in school. As
a freshman or sophomore they can help you build your resume and build those interview skills that
can help land you a part time job. And then as you’re getting ready to graduate you can utilize the Career Center to
really find what your next step will be. I’m really thankful that I had switched my
major to Nutritional Sciences and that I could be a part of the College of
Agriculture and Life Sciences. I definitely benefited for being a part
of this
