Saturday Spotlight where we headed a little bit north into downtownn Clinton
and stopped into Simple Nutrition Clinton and we’re here to talk to Wendy
Pizana about their business. Tell us what Simple Nutrition is. Simple Nutrition is really keeping it simple right here. Keep it simple. So we opened
up this club to be able to share with others and be able to help them find a
way to start living a better, healthier, simple life. Gosh knows we can all use that.
We can. So what do you serve here or how do you help people with that simple?
There are several things. One of the things that we do is we coach
people. So when they come in here we don’t just serve them shakes and teas
and aloes, we like to bring them in introduce them to who we. Introduce them to what we serve but also coach them. And when I say
coach them we sit down individually and we go through a health and wellness
plan with them, we ask well a bunch of questions, get to know who they are,
what do they want and help them set their goals. That’s awesome. I think you
know like people set new year’s resolutions we talked about it last week,
but I always say intentions. We have great intentions and as we come into the
basically we made it halfway through the month hopefully our intentions are still
going. So it’s just interesting to me like there is just a whole- I’m gonna say
slew just that’s my country background from thin mint to frosted animal cookie. All of them sounds super good including a mudslide. So if I came in and
wanted to just get a meal replacement, what would that look like for someone
like me? Okay. So when you come in we actually
like you said we have 52 shake flavors and then some. So you’ve already missed three weeks of the year so you could you know you’re gonna have to keep repeating those. Keep repeating them and come in and try all 52 shakes we actually have a challenge with that, too. Really? If you
try all 52 shakes you go to walk away with a free t-shirt and it says you
conquered the 52 shake challenge. So just something kind of fun.
We’ve had people complete them so there are shirts walking around in our
communities. So when you come in we do serve you a shake, it has 21 vitamins and minerals and 24 protein, they’re very healthy for you. And
then we also serve you a little shot of aloe, it’s mango flavored, it’s really
good for your digestive system and then we also serve you a cup of tea and it
burns 80 calories at rest. There are several flavors and you can put in your
shake or you can just drink it if you don’t care for tea.
So it’s a good way to get some energy you get your protein, your
vitamins, your minerals you get your body energized first thing in the morning. So it’s a great start today just for
breakfast. Now you can do breakfast- now when we’re coaching people if you come in and get your shake or you can make them at home, and we teach you how to do
that, and you have a protein snack. She’s going tp teach you how to cook. I do some of
those on our website too or on our Facebook page. So you do your
shake and you do a snack maybe a shake and a protein snack and
a colorful meal. So one of the things we really make sure you do is don’t think
you can have three shakes a day because you do need real food and including your
snacks. We want to make sure you get your vegetables and your fruits. And protein
snacks, make sure that they are real food and not just those the shakes.
Yeah, and I feel like if you if you do that you’re you’re gonna have that
continual growth. I think that a lot of times people are like, ” oh I’m just gonna
do this and I’m gonna wake up 20 pounds lighter”. Oh no
you have to work at it. Yeah, I believe that. It’s not a miracle drug here. I always say that I like meals because
I’m social so meals are an opportunity to sit down. So that one meal is your
good social hour, the rest you can just be a hermit and drink your shake and
your tea and your aloe. Right, there you go There you go. So tell me what your hours-
well, let’s start with where you located 102 East Michigan Ave in Clinton. We’re right by Coney and Subway. I always say
that because it helps people get here. Across from the fire station. So hopefully the whistle doesn’t go off while we’re standing here talking.
Kind of the main four corners. You got parking lots in front here, we also
have some in the back so if it looks a little full cuz it gets a little busy
around here make sure you park around us. Make sure
I tell people that. And your hours are? Monday through Friday 7:00 to 3:00,
although if you get here ten minutes till, I’m usually here and I will let
you in ready to go.8:00 to 12:00 on Saturday. And closed on Sunday. So if someone wanted to other than stopping in during your

I feel we do a great job sitting down and listening.
What is your goals? What do you want to be? Where do you want to be? You know, you set your goals, like my goal is to get my hundred pounds off by the end of the
year. That’s my official goal. So, I got work to do, but I’m gonna do it. Well, then we start you
out with ten pounds first cuz if I say you’re gonna lose, what? A 100 pounds? You’re gonna go, “ugh”. Ten pounds at a time. Measurable increments so that you
can achieve minor wins, I always say. Yes. Then we put you on a Tanita scale
which measures a lot of things including your muscle mass, bone mass, your visceral fats tells me how much water you are intaking and it tells me your percent of body fat. It’s going to tell you not enough on me. More water. We say half your body weight. That’s a lot of
water, right? That’s a lot, but I always figured I was laughing because I said though the
positive drinking water is you have to get up go to the bathroom which meets
your stand goal and you’re walking goal everyday. So this is super exciting. So
you and Jesse kind of decided to take this leap of faith a year ago which
doesn’t even seem like that to me. Wow. We’ve been here a year and we’re
only here because of our customers. Right, it’s got to be fun. It’s got to be
fun, we enjoy being here we came into a different community we’re from Tecumseh,
I was born and raised in Britton and we came in the Clinton and I’ll tell you what.
Look at her spreading her wings. We have been welcomed and blessed and
we really built a lot of great relationships so we couldn’t ask for any
more. Well then I’m gonna say that it just
seems like Clinton is really growing in leaps and bounds. We’ve seen some renovations at the Clinton Inn and then we’ve seen the new coffee shop and we’ve
got a- I must have been you guys that people realized that a year ago that
it’s time to invest in Clinton or let’s take it from there. So let me ask you
what’s the best part about owning your own business? The best part about owning my own business is really the people. I’ve always wanted to make sure whatever
I do I am working with people, dealing with people, being involved in the
community.We’ve been able to give back last year which I’m very very happy and
humbled about. You know, giving back percentage of my shakes or a couple
bucks per shake so you got three different fire departments and we’ve
done a lot in the schools, a couple of other things in the community. Did hats and
gloves even collection box in here, just stuff like that I think that’s what makes it fun to
be able to include the community, too on some of your projects. So when you own
your own business you get to decide those things. So that’s the part I
love the most, not to mention you know we have a great group of people that we
work with here they’re not employees but they work with us that they are their
own coaches. They’re known as distributors, if you will. So they come in and they’re part of our team and we’ve worked together not only
we reach not hear their reach not on other areas and all that,too. That’s awesome.
Well this is exciting. I’m super excited I mean I I’m glad we were able to stop
in and to learn and I am gonna have a breakfast this morning here so I haven’t
had breakfast. Good luck trying to figure out which one, right? Yeah I know.
I’m just gonna start at number one and work my way to 52. That’s not true. The Mudslide sounds really too awesome. Now, you said we were here for a year so
actually Jesse and I started this a couple of years ago. So Jesse walked
into Simple Nutrition Tecumseh. I was gonna say that. Yeah, you know he’s been
through a lot in his past and you know battled cancer a couple years and he felt,
“I need to start healthier, Mom”, so he went on his own little journey. He’s the one that walked into the door and said, “Who are you? Wat do you do?” and it
started from there. He got his own results, he’s lost 60 some pounds, he got me
involved in it I lost over 60 pounds as well. My mom over here. Where’s she at? She’s coming up! There she is! This is my beautiful mom. This is our celebrity behind the counter. Who doesn’t know Karen, right? So she’s
lost 40 pounds. She’s back in this since the day we opened. I’m very blessed as
her daughter, mother-daughter working here together. It makes my day, even
though she retired, you know she’s not here all the time. When she’s here
we just have a lot of fun together. That’s the other thing. We have
fun. That’s huge. She makes the best shake and when she’s not here, I hear about it from a few people, “where’s Karen?”. So we’re very, very proud of her
and very proud of the who she’s reaching in the community too. Yeah,I mean I think
that’s the interesting part because Jesse is how old now? H’s 28.
It’s crazy to me. I still think of him being 12 and then being his mom and his
Grandmother’s here so I think that it just does show that we’re
multi-generational that you can start this journey you know whether you’re 21
and looking for absolute you know that starts a health or whether you’re you
know on that point of my life where I’m like okay it’s time to get back to
basics and focus and get back in shape so I mean there’s never a bad time to
start a health journey by anything it’s never too late it’s never too late to
start so keep your intentions good so just to review we are at simple
