I’ve here today at a very delicious restaurant in Insadong. This sells Gejang. You might feel unfamiliar with this food. This is a Korean traditional food made of seasoned raw crab that goes with a bowl of rice. It is nick-named as a rice thief because it is too delicious that you just can’t stop eating rice. Let me cut a lengthy explanation short and just come inside to show you guys. Let me explain the menu here. I’ve ordered a set menu called Haggot Keunsang. It is 21,900 won (US$18.73). You will eat unlimited Ganjang-gejang, Yangneum-gejang and Ganjang sewoo and a crab stew. This is Gangang gejang, , which is raw crab seasoned with soy sauce. There are many ingredients in this soy sauce. Every Ganjang gejang restaurant has its own special recipe. Basic ingredients are similar but there is a secret recipe in each restaurant. So they are slightly different. This is Yangneum gejang. The seasoning is based on red pepper paste. A recipe of Yangneum gejang is also slightly different from each restaurant. Looks yum! This is Ganjang sewoo. (sewoo means shrimp). This is a raw shrimp marinated in seasoned soy sauce for 2-3 days. Before you start eating, don’t forget to wear this plastic gloves. It is because your fingers will smell bad since you eat this with your hands. Even though you wash your hands after eating, it will last for some time. So most Ganjang gejang restaurant offer plastic gloves. Put this on and start to eat. Everyone eats Ganjang gejang differently, and I will show you how I eat. For me, I put the crab meat into the rice to eat. Drop the meat into the rice. This part, on the shell, is especially very delicious. Squeeze the meat like this. And eat this with a spoonful of rice. Delicious! You might feel it is a bit fishy if you eat too much of Ganjang gejang. So after eating some portion, try Yangneum gejang. Let me eat Yangneum gejang. Generally, Asians including Japanese and Taiwanese like this food. Some of my Western friends don’t eat this well. But once you are in Korea, I recommend you try this. The menu I ordered includes a crab stew. The stew has a lot of crab flavor in it. Koreans eat this kind of stew for a hangover soup. Good! Time to eat Ganjang sewoo. Remove the head. This is a delicious part. Peel the shell. It takes some time to do that. And time to eat. I really want to give you this. You can order unlimited. I feel sorry that I can’t. Sorry. Where is my rice? Where did it go?! Did you eat mine? Where did it go? As you can see, I’ve enjoyed two types of Gejang very much. The price is also reasonable. There are Gyeongbokgung (Gyeongbok Palace) and Bukchon Hanok Village near this restaurant. If you visit this neighborhood, come to Insadong to look around and also taste Gejang, the Korean traditional food. Let’s meet in my next video! Bye bye If you want to visit Haebyeon’s Kkotge, the gejang restaurant in Insadong, come out of the exit No. 5 of Jongno 3-ga station. As soon as you walk out of the exit, turn right to keep walking toward Nakwon Musical Instrument Shopping Arcade. Turn left. And turn right again when you see Nature Republic. This is the restaurant.
