How to cook homemade okonomiyaki & recipe【 Neo Japanese Cooking 】

Welcome to New Japanese Cooking. In this video, I will show you how to cook easy and tasty okonomiyaki. Okonomiyaki is one of popular Japanese dishes. There are different types of okonomiyaki in Japan. Such as Osaka style, Hiroshima style. In this video, I’m going to cook Osaka style okonomiyaki. My dad’s family is from Osaka. When I visit my grandparents house in Osaka, my grandma used to cook
okonomiyaki for me. You might think cooking okonomiyaki is hard. It’s really simple and easy. Let’s start cooking okonomiyaki! Here’s instructions. First, we are going to make okonomiyaki batter. So let’s measure water. Using 1/2 cup of water. You can use 1 egg or 2 eggs. Mixing water and eggs. You can use all-purpose flour. Using 1 cup. Please make sure putting flour little by
little. As you can see thickness, this is perfect thickness for okonomiyaki batter. This is a main ingredient of okonomiyaki cabbage. We can just use half this time. Washing a cabbege. You can put cabbage into a strainer and wash it. I’m going to slice cabbage into inches like this size. Mixing cabbage and okonomiyaki batter. Also you can add green onion. I’m going to use half of it. Washing green onion. Let’s cut green onion. After cutting in half, you can slice it. I’m mixing white part and green part this time. Mixing green onion into a batter as
well. I got a nice bacon from a market. I’ll slice bacon so I can put bacon on top of okonomiyaki. I’m hungry…
So I’m getting one more slice. Using okonomiyaki sauce. You can find okonomiyaki sauce from Asian markets. Don’t forget Japanese mayonnaise too. Adding red ginger. Bonito flakes. And any cooking oil. You can use any size of pans to cook okonomiyaki. Okay, let’s heat up a pan to cook okonomiyaki. After heating up, you can add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil. And heating up oil. Let’s cook bacon first. Cooking both sides. Yummy. I wanna have this bacon right now, but let’s just keep it for okonomiyaki. We can still keep using same oil to cook okonomiyaki. And we can get the flavor from bacon. We don’t wanna burn okonomiyaki, so let’s use medium heat. Let’s put a lid and wait for 3 minutes. Okay, let’s flip it. Looks good. Put a lid again then cook other side. Put bacon on top. Okonomiyaki sauce. Japanese mayonnaise. Green onion. Red ginger. Bonito flakes. Okay, okonomiyaki is ready! If you like, you can put a pouched egg on top. Let’s try okonomiyaki. Itadakimas!
